Happy Spring Break!

We hope you all enjoyed your spring break. The sun is shining,  the blue bonnets are blooming, and sounds of SXSW fill the air. What an awesome place to live! 8)

Now is a good time for us to remind you to use sunscreen daily. Look for an SPF of 50 or greater in a non greasy unscented lotion. Apply first thing in the morning and reapply throughout periods of long exposure to the sun and after swimming.

The mosquitos are also back in town. Repel those nasty buggers with with Avon skin so soft or Johnsons aloe vera gel in the green package. IThese products are safe for all ages. If you prefer something stronger, lemongrass oil/ lemon eucalyptus can be applied to exposed sking on children over the age of three.  Commercial bug repellant can also be used on children over the age of two as long as it contains less than 30% DEET. Be very careful to avoid the face and hands. Bug spray should only be applied to exposed skin, not under clothes. Do not apply to areas of broken skin. Bathing after returning indoors is necessary to avoid absorbing to much DEET through the skin. Be sure you empty or drain any standing areas of water as these are prime breeding grounds for these pests.

Zika virus- (Zee-ka) virus disease is a mosquito-borne viral infection that primarily occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Most people infected with Zika virus have no signs and symptoms, while others report mild fever, rash and muscle pain. To date, there have been zero cases of Zika being contracted inside the continental US from a mosquito bite. However, we urge you to take precaution when traveling to tropical areas.
